who made your clothes? what are they made of? where will they end up?

Slow down, and think about it

If we've done our job successfully, we've encouraged you to consider every detail.

Fair wages, sustainability, end waste, donating basic needs.

What are you consuming, what are you donating and why does it matter?

It all matters.

Hug the planet

We source plant-based fabrics + overruns from the waste of larger brands, low waste manufacturing, clean dyes, plastic-free packaging and more

Provide a basic need

Underwear is the only clothing necessity that cannot be donated used, and it tops the most urgent needs list at non-profits globally. A pair of urgently requested underwear is donated per item sold.

Empower the people

Ethically made via fair living wages in Kansas City small batch micro factories

our "why"

We donate underwear when you shop.

It all started in 2012 when founder Hayley learned that underwear is the most under-donated clothing item and tops the most urgent needs list at domestic violence shelters, sexual assault clinics, homeless shelters and other global organizations. Around the same time, a close family member revealed that she once suffered the greatest abuse - the abuse of a loved one - and if it wasn't for the help of family, she wouldve looked to a shelter for refuge. It was obvious that we could help survivors like Hayley's family member in such a simple way. Not only would underwear donations make a someone feel comfortable and clean, but would restore confidence and dignity in their everyday lives. For every item sold, we donate a pair of underwear to requesting organizations serving women and youth in need.

what we do

You help us make a difference

MADI stands for Make a Difference. In a nutshell, that's what we do. Founder Hayley realized that the garment and home goods industries were both missing a brand that didn't just focus on positive impact in one area, but in ALL areas of the business model. We break down every area of MADI Apparel - wages, manufacturing, waste, giving back, fabrics - and in this ongoing brand evaluation we continue to reach for the highest level of positive impact in all areas. We don't just care about making a difference in one area, we want to tackle them all.

sustainable fabrics

Sourcing plant-based and textile waste fabrics

For our vegan bag collection, we source the world's first plastic-free non-animal alternative to leather. Our apparel products are made from plant-based fabrics certified to include no harmful chemicals like bamboo and organic cotton blends that contain less than 5% total spandex content. We're committed to continue evolving and seeking the most sustainable fabrics and materials on the market. We're currently working on expanding our sustainability impact report to include how long it takes for our materials to biodegrade. Stay tuned for updates!

fair wages, supporting local

100% fair wages. 100% made in Kansas City.

Did you know that only 3% of the world's fashion brands pay a living wage? For seven years, we've been creating and sustaining local garment manufacturing jobs right here in our city and paying a living wage to our sewers. Our founder/designer, patternmaker, sew teams and natural dye artist are all located within a few miles of our headquarters, keeping dollars in Kansas City's urban core community.

underwear donations

8,500 pairs to 50+ organizations

For every item you buy, we donate a pair of underwear to requesting organizations serving women and youth like domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, rape clinics and disaster relief situations. We fulfill domestic and international urgent donation requests regularly. Through your orders, we've donated underwear to over 8,500 women and youth in over 50 organizations and ten countries!

seamstress job training

4 lives changed

In 2016, we launched a seamstress training program through our non-profit subsidiary MADI Donations [501(c)3] to provide lifetime job skills training and opportunities to lift up women facing employment barriers and other life challenges. Through this program, four motivated women learned the tools to sew our challenging stretchy knit fabrics on industrial sewing machines. They gained a lifetime job skill, resume builders, career confidence, and through part time sewing work they earned income to afford big goals like improved housing.

Reinvented fit

Bamboo Staple Tee

Our ridiculously slinky soft basic tee is made in the USA via living wages and eco-friendly bamboo fabric. For every tee you buy, we get to donate a pair of underwear to a requesting organization in need.

Our transparent price structure

The true cost of conscious production

Our prices reflect a PEOPLE, PLANET, PROFIT situation. When you see a cheap price tag, consider it a red flag, because that means SOMEONE SOMEWHERE is ultimately paying the true cost of that price tag through unfair wages or environmental harm. In honor of transparency and vulnerability, we want to show you what it truly does cost us to make a garment when attempting to do the right thing in each area. The true cost of ethical fashion production doesn't come close to fast fashion prices, but we don't plan to compete :). We plan to make a difference.
