Panama Drop-Off Donation!

Executive Director of our non-profit arm MADI Donations - Lindsey - was on a MADI underwear drop-off in Panama in early April!  Here's an update on our mission and partnership in Panama:
Lindsey saw a great need throughout Panama and the comarca home to the Ngobe Bugle Tribe - for women's underwear. It's a luxury item most western women take for granted.
MADI Donations partnered with companies 4Love (a clothing company that focuses on women empowering women) and Sowing Seeds of Love (a non-profit Lindsay started in Panama that empowers indigenous women, children and orphans through education, team sports and teaching different trade skills.)  Lindsey has established great credibility within these communities as she has been living and empowering these individuals for 4+ years. She knew exactly where to travel to bring these amazing undies to women!
The donation drop-off consisted of a 2+ hour drive into the comarca followed by a two hour hike up the mountains to distribute undies. They were blessed with passing out 120 pairs in the comarca. With each pair of underwear, the drop-off team also added a note letting the women know they are beautiful and loved. At first, the women were a bit timid and smirked about the undies but when Lindsey talked to them, made jokes and let the women choose the style of undies they liked the best, the whole donation drop-off team watched these women light up!  Love and joy filled the air.

MADI undies were also distributed to teenage girls and workers at both orphanages (that our partnered organization Sowing Seeds of Love supports) as well as to all the women of 4Love, their daughters, sisters, sister in laws, aunts, etc..!
This was Lindsey's first donation drop-off since she became part of our team as Executive Director in February!  In her words "I can't wait to see what the future has in store for MADI Donations and the trips we will embark on to provide women with the joy of undies!"
Two extra fun facts:
The women couldn't believe the underwear was made out of Bamboo, they were fascinated by that.
They loved the black briefs (The Bonnie style) and black lace pairs (The Kaydee style).

MADI Takes a Road Trip!

We're hitting the road this weekend and could USE YOUR HELP!
We're traveling from KC -> OKC -> Austin -> Houston -> Fayetteville THIS THURSDAY - TUESDAY for 2 reasons:
1.  We're distributing 300 pairs of MADI underwear donations to four women's organizations we've partnered with in each city!
2.  But -- in order to continue donating to these organizations on a regular basis (after this weekend) - we must develop a sustainable buy1give1 model in these cities.  If we find a retail boutique to sell MADI Apparel in, in each of these cities, for all MADI intimates sold in that boutique, we will donate a pair of underwear LOCALLY in that city.

Here's how YOU - our MADI friends/supporters - can help:
We can use your help in finding local boutiques to sell our impactful intimates.  For all MADI intimates sold at any retail boutique, a pair of underwear will be donated back to that local community!  We love keeping MADI donations local and sustainable in that city!
Here is where we're donating:
Thursday, March 3rd Oklahoma City, OK
MADI Donations (our 501c3) will donate 50 pairs of new underwear  to YWCA of OKC
About YWCA: Operate the only DV Shelter in Oklahoma County as well as the only Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program in OK county
Friday, March 4th- Austin
MADI Donations (our 501c3) will donate 150 pairs of new underwear to SafePlace Austin
About SafePlace:  Provides Safety for individuals and families affected by sexual and domestic violence; helps victims in their Healing so they can move beyond being defined by the crimes committed against them.
We'll be donating underwear mainly to to Eloise House - on site sexual assault clinic where survivors can come for a forensic exam for free.
Monday, March 7th-Houston
MADI Donations (our 501c3) will donate 50 pairs of new underwear to Star of Hope.
About Star of Hope: Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children.

Girls Night Out to Support Lazarus Ministries

We recently held an event where we partnered with the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri that we called "Girls Night Out" to support Lazarus Ministries. It was a night of shopping with complimentary wine and appetizers at MADI Apparel. 15% of all sales went to support Lazarus Ministries at Historic Grand Avenue Temple and for each pair of underwear purchased a pair was donated to a woman in need as always!
Lazarus Ministries is an organization that strives "to offer unlimited compassion while providing for the unmet needs of Kansas City’s urban core through a volunteer program which allows an opportunity for interpreting service as an expression of faith." To learn more about Lazarus Ministries click here!
Founder Hayley was also featured on KCWE as well as KMBC 9 News speaking about the event!

Here are some other pictures from the event!
Stay tuned for posts about more fun events like this one!

Grande Ivory Affair

On July 11th MADI Apparel held the Grande Ivory Affair celebrating the launch of our second color option, ivory! The event was a blast with music, drinks, appetizers and lots of panty shopping!

We have had many customers requesting ivory for bridal and bachelorette gifts and it really made perfect sense for us to offer it because MADI Apparel is focused on three words: simple, elegant and powerful. We want our colors and designs to reflect those three words, and now with the addition of ivory to our color options we believe we are!

If you want to join in on the next MADI Apparel event, save the date for our Oct 24th fundraiser!  All funds raised will be considered "charitable contributions" and will help us in various ways like traveling to our partnered donation recipients across the US and globe, spreading awareness through PSAs (video production) and other advertisements. For more information, keep tabs on our social media and visit our non-profit website, www.MADIdonations.com!

Real Donation Story

Our founder Hayley and Molly, the East Coast Distribution Lead, were presented the opportunity to travel to California and meet a domestic abuse survivor in the fall of 2014. The survivor had read about MADI’s buy one give one program and reached out to Hayley to see if she would donate underwear to her and her daughter.

Instead of just sending her underwear, Hayley and Molly decided to take the opportunity to fly from Florida to California to meet this awesome survivor. Hayley and Molly didn't know what to expect, whether or not the survivor would actually show up to meet them after they'd traveled from Florida to California to meet her in person.

Immediately upon meeting the three embraced.

The survivor started sharing her story, including journal entries she had written along the way - years of abuse and 17 years of constant running from her abuser.

Hayley, Molly and the survivor still keep in touch, and MADI Apparel even sent her and her and her daughter a few more pairs of underwear on Mother’s Day!

Hayley and Molly said that they will forever carry with them the story of this determined and strong-willed survivor. And, after watching the video yourself, you will too. If you haven’t had a chance to head over to our donations page and watch the story about the real donation, you definitely must! More Than Just Underwear

A women’s shelter at its most basic function is a safe zone. It is a place where women and children who are survivors of abuse can go in their time of need. The women in these shelters have often suffered from some form of domestic abuse and even rape. Women’s Shelters provide safety, shelter, a place to sleep, food and often times clothing for those seeking its comforts.

^^ Team MADI donating new, clean undies to Hope House in Kansas City

Women flee their homes and escape abusive partners sometimes carrying nothing. During their stay at the shelter, if they don’t have everything they need to feel comfortable (like underwear, for example) they may feel the urge to leave the shelter and go back home to pack a bag of necessities. It is then, 9 times out of 10, that their abusers are at the home waiting for them-this is when the most abuse occurs, often leading to death. We want to ensure these women are comfortable on their road to recovery with all of the necessities-including underwear and that they don’t feel the need to go home.

^^ Donating MADI undies with the staff of Family Services of Tulare County

All of the clothing available at a shelter comes from donations. However, underwear can only be donated if it is new and unused, but we don’t all think to go out and buy a new package of underwear to put in our donation pile. This is what has lead to underwear being the most needed and yet most under donated item in the shelters. MADI Apparel has not only taken a step towards solving this issue, by donating underwear, but we are donating underwear that can empower these women. Underwear is a woman’s most intimate article of clothing—it could be hard to start a new life without even your most simple, intimate clothing. And as we here at MADI like to say, “its not just underwear, its dignity.” At the end of the day, we want these women to build themselves back up and feel confident again. And we can do that, even with a pair of underwear. To help now, purchase a pair for yourself and a pair will be donated at http://www.madiapparel.com/collections/all.
