MADI In Cuba

At the end of January, founder, Hayley Besheer traveled to Cuba to make an international drop-off!
Here are some snapshots and details of her trip:
Mageli Hogar Maternito Infantil - This is an overnight clinic where mentally or physically ill expecting mothers may stay for treatment until it is time to head to the hospital to have the baby.  Healthcare is free in Cuba, and babies are treated with VERY serious high priority - if a baby dies during during birth, doctors risk having their license taken away.

With director of the Mageli Hogar Maternito Infantil.
An expecting mother Hayley Hayley & Pam met outside of Mageli Hogar Maternito Infantil.
Hayley and Pam's local Havana friends, guides and translators, Ana and Yenisleydis who assisted in our drop-offs throughout Havana.
-Fun facts about them: Ana is 28 and is a local radio broadcaster, Yenisleydis (nickname in English is Jenny) is 25 and a practicing Doctor in Havana.
Mirta- 85 yrs old and Paula - 86 years old.  They were very excited about receiving new underwear, as it's difficult to afford.  Hayley asked how they knew each other and they said they are "Amigas", sitting on the sidewalk to catch some sun :)
As Hayley & Pam were organizing the underwear to head to their first drop-off, the bathroom attendant of the restaurant we were in asked if they might give her a pair of "bloomers".  She was so excited to have a pair of new underwear that she said looked like they would fit perfectly!
City driver Ernesto that told Hayley & Pam that even though healthcare and education are free in Cuba, necessities like underwear are very expensive for women especially on a wage of under $40/month (many government positions not in the tourism industry pay between $20-$40/month).  They left undies for his mother and sister-in-law.
The woman in the middle is named Caridad - which means charity in Spanish.  Hayley & Pam met her in Havana and they asked if she could use new underwear.  She ecstatically said yes and emotionally told us how over the years she became separated from her family and a man stole her property, leaving her homeless.
These last few pictures were in Havana. This drop-off was in Santiago at the African Cultural Center - "Instituto Cubano Amistad Con Los Pueblos".
Here, Hayley was donating 25 pairs of underwear to Dr. Marta Cordies, director of the African Cultural Center.

Hayley Raised Awareness In....Her Underwear!

If you haven't already heard, founder Hayley Besheer spent her Christmas Eve standing in her underwear on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Hayley was there to represent the vulnerability that women who do not have access to new underwear might feel and raise awareness about domestic violence. One of Hayley's New Year's resolutions was to get outside her comfort zone, and this was certainly an excellent way to get started on that goal!
If you want to hear more about this amazing way Hayley raised awareness check out this video!
Hayley has also just been recognized in KC Magazine for her amazing display! Check it out here!

New Distributor: clair de lune + The Great Bra Exchange

We're starting off this new year with some very exciting news! MADI Apparel is debuting the launch of sales in our newest distribution outlet THIS TUESDAY from 4-7pm at clair de lune! We're also teaming up with our new distribution partners clair de lune lingerie boutique to donate bras and underwear to Hope House!

As always, for every pair of MADI underwear sold at our storefront or any of our distribution outlets, a pair is donated to a woman. We've donated MADI underwear to Hope House twice this year, and sales of MADI through clair de lune will allow us to donate even MORE to local Hope House. The Hawthorne Plaza, Kansas boutique will launch the ongoing offering of MADI Apparel underwear on January 5th, and for every pair of underwear purchased, a new pair will be donated to Hope House.

About MADI's new collaboration with clair de lune and The Great Bra Exchange:
For the past 12 years, clair de lune's non-profit Great Bra Exchange has asked their customers to donate gently used bras to victims of domestic violence at Hope House. The event has resulted in the donation of more than 20,000 bras, and in exchange, customers receive a $15 gift certificate for a new bra.

For this year’s Great Bra Exchange, held annually Jan. 2-17, clair de lune has teamed up with us for a special event on January 5. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - where the boutique will launch the ongoing offering of MADI Apparel underwear. clair de lune will donate bras and MADI Apparel will donate underwear to the women of Hope House.

“Women often arrive at Hope House with nothing more than the clothes on their back,” CEO MaryAnne Methany says. “Who could imagine how important something like a bra becomes for women in their most desperate hour? And underwear tops our list of most needed under-donated articles of clothing. For women in need, undergarments mean more than a just a donation, they mean dignity.”

We hope to see you this Tuesday night for a fun evening of shopping, apps and drinks!

Join Us In South America!!

After such a successful trip to Haiti where we were able to donate 300 pairs of underwear to women of all ages, we have decided to make another international drop-off in South America!
On #GivingTuesday we started accepting donations to help send us to South America and we we're offering for anyone who donated $100 or more a chance to be entered in a drawing to join us! We raised 25% of our goal on giving Tuesday and we could not thank those donors enough! (And all $100+ giving Tuesday donors will be entered into our raffle TWICE!) Now, we're turning giving Tuesday into a full month of giving! So the rest of you aren't off the hook yet :)  We're giving you the entire month of December to help us reach our goal and have the chance to come with us! Donate $100 or more for a chance to travel with our team this spring on our next international drop-off.  If you're looking for a charity to donate your end of year charitable contributions to, help us reach our South America drop-off goal of $3,000! Click here to donate!
Here are a few pictures of us donating in Haiti, you don't want to miss the opportunity to help us do this in South America!

First Annual Fundraiser: #TheGreatDonate

Ladies and Gentleman, on Saturday October 24, 2015 from 7pm-11pm at MADI headquarters (1659 Summit, KCMO) we will be hosting our first annual fundraiser, The Great Donate! This fundraiser is to help spread the word about our new 501c3 non-profit status of MADI Apparel's subsidiary, MADI Donations, INC. We'll also be doing some undie donating live at the event to our local partnered organizations!

Live and in person, we will be donating 50 pairs of underwear to all eight of our Kansas City partnered organizations! You heard it, that's 400 total pairs! And we could not be more excited!

Hope House, one of our Kansas City partnered organizations we will be donating to for the second time at The Great Donate fundraiser.

The event will be lots of fun, featuring live music, cocktails with KC Rieger Whiskey, Gin and Vodka, appetizers donated by Westside Local and Fevere Bread, an outdoor fall smore's bar and a silent auction!  Tickets are $25 with a $10 gift card to MADI Apparel included in the price of your ticket!  Fair Value of Benefits Received: $17.  $8 of ticket price may be claimed as a tax-deductible charitable contribution!  To purchase a ticket, click here

We will also be accepting charitable donations at the fundraiser (which are tax deductible)!  The donations will directly help survivors of domestic violence, survivors of rape, those affected by natural disaster, etc by funding additional production of underwear to be donated, out-of-state and abroad donation drop-off trips, and marketing/video PSAs to help raise awareness. This is a great way to be able to help women in need without buying underwear for yourself.

Keep in mind, underwear is the most needed and most under-donated item of clothing as it lands on the "most urgent needs list" at most womens shelters across the country. Help us change that and Make a Difference in the lives of women across the street and around the world!

To buy your ticket head to Eventbrite:#TheGreatDonate

For more information about the fundraiser head to www.MADIdonations.com
